Hi,
We don't really have a fora devoted to arts here at Ars. I guess the photography threads in the AV fora could be the closest. So Mobile Computing it is and I thought it would be interesting to compare thoughts on devices which are designed for or can be used for drawing and painting. This isn't so much a "what should I buy", rather more a “what would/do you use to draw on”?
I recently posted a sketch I created on my Droid Incredible using AutoDesk SketchBook Mobile and this has just wetted my appetite for a larger device. I have a Lenovo XP Tablet and have done some drawing with the digital pen, but the experience working with my fingers on the Droid made the experience much more visceral, something akin to my early experience with finger painting.
I've flirted with buying a Cintiq for a while now, but was put off by the price and the fact that it is tethered to a computer and I believe is not touch capable. I was never interested in the Intuos, never getting used to the idea of drawing on a tablet with the results displayed on a monitor. Has some fun with a Thinkpad T41 convertible tablet, but the form factor was just a bit too heavy for easy sketching and also needed the pen.
Now with the iPad and the Android slates, it looks like what I have been seeking is now here. Check out this guy finger painting a portrait on an iPad.
Another option I came across recently is the Asus EP121 Slate which has the touch capability as well as a pen. This video comparing drawing on the Asus slate with the Cintiq make me want to try to get my hands on one and try it out. Of course battery life isn’t going to be all that, but tempting none the less. I had hoped that lenovo would come out with a slate for years. It looks like what they have come up with is the LePad Android Slate and U1 Windows 7 Hybrid of sorts with a Win7 laptop that the screen detaches to become a Android slate.
Of course the Android Slates also offer a lot of drawing options at a fairly low price. .MilFox suggested the NOOKcolor eBook Tablet makes a decent drawing device, so there's yet another option.
So any thoughts on the current state of digital drawing and painting? Should Ars have an arts fora of some sort? Anyone have any drawings they want to share?
Any Suggestion Would be appreciate.
I didn't find right solution on the internet.
